Pitt-G’Town First Half Thoughts

March 15th, 2008 | by The Prowler |

Pitt looks good, but both teams are playing a fairly solid game. Gilbert Brown is playing great and makes me excited about the player he is going to be in coming years. He has 8 points on 3-3 shooting and 2 rebounds.

Pitt has 19 rebounds to G’Town’s 9 and Pitt has 10 offensive boards to G’Town’s 0. This is probably the biggest difference in the game so far. Pitt has looked fantastic on the glass Defensively, both teams are doing some nice things, but neither team is playing smothering D. Pit is shooting 43% and G’Town is shooting 50%.

One area of complaint is that G’Town has gotten every close call in the game, including some balls that went off their players but it was called out off Pitt. I don’t Pitt is being cheated. The close calls just aren’t going in their direction right now.

The nice thing about this game is that Pitt looks like they came to play, ending the first half on a 15-6 run. I don’t mind them losing tonight, especially because I didn’t think they would make it to this game; but what has been frustrating about Pitt’s appearances in the BET championship game is that they seem to not show up at all. Last year they only scored in the 40s and lost by over 20 points. The year before, they looked asleep against a VERY mediocre Syracuse team. I am very pleased with the way Pitt is playing tonight. Win or lose, if they keep this effort up in the second half then we have much to be proud of and much to be excited about for the NCAA tourney.

Update: Hey guys, feel free to make a free throw!!
