Off Topic: Site Changes

February 27th, 2008 | by The Prowler |

I have received several comments that the theme I have been using for this blog is difficult to read for many of you. Apparently the font doesn’t stand out enough from the background and the links are hard to see. I appreciate feedback and want to make this site accessible to as many as possible, so I take the comments seriously and want to address issues when I can. I do like the theme, primarily because I was able to use basic Pitt colors without making my site look like everyone else’s. So I have made some changes that hopefully will allow everyone to better read the posts while still allowing me to use this theme.

What I have done is punched the font of the posts up bigger so the posts are easier to read. I think this makes it easier (though I never had problems in the first place so I am not objective enough to know). The second concern was that the links within the posts didn’t stand out from the background, since both were a similar shade of light blue. So I changed all the links within the posts to the same yellow that I use for the titles and header. This was a problem that I did notice myself, and I think the yellow stands out significantly better.

I also noticed on both mine and my wife’s computers that in order for the changes to come up you actually have to click the refresh button on the browser once on the site. Apparently because browsers cache the most recent incarnation of the site, it requires this ‘refresh’ to show the changes. I use firefox, so I don’t know how this issue affects other browsers.

Please feel free to give me any feedback regarding these changes and if they help at all. Like I said, I don’t want to completely scrap the theme. But if I have to, I will go back to a more generic theme because I don’t want difficulties in viewing the site to deter people from visiting regularly and taking part in this community.

Thanks,

The Prowler
