Lady Panthers get Brawl Revenge
February 27th, 2008 | by The Prowler |I am as guilty as anyone in the fact that women’s sports generally don’t really register on my radar and that even the Pitt Panthers women’s basketball team get little to no love. I don’t foresee that changing a whole lot in the future (in the sense that I am not going to write regular posts about them on this blog) but it doesn’t mean they aren’t worthy of notice and praise or that we aren’t cheering for them. I am proud of what the [Lady] Panthers have done the last few years and am thrilled that they look as if they are going to make the NCAA tournament.
While I haven’t followed the team closely this season (I am lucky I get the men’s games on tv out here in Kansas), I have kept general tabs on what they have been doing. A few weeks ago the [Lady] Panthers got blown out in the women’s version of the Backyard Brawl. Last night they got their revenge. The [Lady] Hoopies came into the game ranked 13th in the nation and in third place in the Big East. After beating Pitt by 21 in Morgantown on Feb. 13, last night’s game was much closer, ending in a 77-75 overtime win at the Peterson Events Center. Hopefully this helps the Pitt women right their ship as they are coming off of a four game losing streak.
Congratulations to the Pitt women and thank you for giving us another win over WVU.
